Favorite Movies of 2007

Here are my favorite films of 2007...

7. 1408 - (7.0/10) - Best suspense thriller of the year - I had high expectations for this movie...Looked like a good scare from the trailer...John Cusack..Sam L Jackson....Stephen King...And it delivered just as expected.

6. The Bourne Ultimatum - (7.3/10)

5. Knocked Up - (7.7/10) - Favorite comedy of the year - Not as funny or as good as the 40 year Old Virgin but still great fun. It's much more of a relationship movie than a flat out comedy. I enjoyed the cast A LOT..Pretty much every character/actor was fun to watch.

4. The King of Kong - (8.5/10) - Best Independent and Biggest Surprise of the Year - Just awesome. A documentary about the battle for the world record for Donkey Kong. Even if you're not into this kinda stuff I am 100% certain you will be entertained from start to finish

3. The Simpsons Movie - (9/10) - Favorite Animated/Family - I saw this right after I took the MCAT's and is was just what I needed. It was everything a Simpsons movie should have been.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - (8/10) - Favorite Summer Blockbuster - Hella Fun.

1. Grindhouse: Planet Terror - (10/10) - This was the my most anticipated movie since 2005's Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith! And it delivered exactly the way I thought it would. Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror is pretty much my perfect movie - over-the-top B-horror, awesome action, funny, cool and super likeable characters, great cameos, romance, excitement, and just all around non-stop fun. The Fake trailers between the two movies were HILARIOUS and perfect. Can't wait to see this one again

Well here are the last of the movie reviews for this year. I didn't really get to watch as many as I had hoped during my break because I spent most of my viewing hours watching The Wonder Years Marathon...

There are too many to give full reviews...So keeping them as short as possible.

Lucky You (2007) - (6/10) - Cool cast of characters...Movies about poker, gambling, and Vegas are always enjoyable to watch. The biggest issue with this one is that it is way too predictable. There are NO surprises...And therefore very little excitement.

Graduation Day (1981) - (6/10) - Contains all the elements of an 80's teen horror slasher flicks. If you consider yourself an 80's horror fan then you need to make sure you've seen it.

Vampire Hunter D (2000) - (6/10) - I am not a fan of anime...But I have always been drawn to Vampire Hunter D for some reason...Probably just the title. I did end up enjoying it because of the cool horror elements....But still a bit iffy on the whole anime thing - too perverse.

Devour (2005) - (5.9/10) - Finally a movie starring Jensen Ackles! His friends signs him up for a computer game which ends up causing violence and death to the people around him..

Movin' Too Fast (2005) - (5.9/10) - Two women are chased by a killer highway patrolman.

The Dream Team (1989) - (5.2/10) - A group of guys from a mental institute get lost on their own in the city. Michael Keaton and Christopher Loyd star so you get some great acting even though the movie itself falls flat in the plot department.

Doctor Strange (2007) - (6.7/10) - I am even more surprised than you with the score I gave this little animated comic book movie.

Fade To Black (1980) - (5.8/10) - A really good movie premise about a young man who is obsessed with classic cinema and more specifically Marilyn Monroe. After getting stood up by a Marilyn look alike he loses it and kills people.

The Curse of Pirate Death (2006) - (1.5/10) - This movie was BAD.

Mustang Sally's Horror House (2006) - (4.9/10) - Bunch of twentysomethings go to a whore house that's really a horror house. Get it? Ha. So clever? No.

Double Dragon: The Movie (1994) - (5/10)

Revenge of Billy The Kid (1991) - (4.8/10) - A western horror film about billy the kid? No. A movie that takes place after a farmer takes advantage of goat and goat has a baby with a human body and goat head who grows up to have serious issues with the locals? Yes. Didn't see that coming now did ya??

Initial D (2005) - (7.9/10) - A great movie about competitive drifting in Japan. Fun characters and great racing = great flick.

Nosferatu (1922) - (4/10) - I've seen it before...And for some reason I still can't enjoy or even appreciate this horror classic.

The Lookout (2007) - (5/10)

Surf's Up (2007) - (6.9/10) - I rarely enjoy these CGI animal features....But it's documentary style was just so well done.

Mortuary (2005) - (7/10) - A really fun campy B-horror about a teenage boy dealing with the troubles of living at a mortuary.

Invasion of the Pod People (2007) - (2.5/10) - To all those people who slammed The Invasion this past summer...I guarantee this one is at least 10x worse.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988) - (8.5/10) - Another one of my favorite 80's B-movie classics. I mean come on...Horror, Sci-Fi, comedy and Killer Clown Aliens from Outer Space? The title says it all.

Tin Man (2007) - (5.5/10) - The Sci-Fi Special remake of the Wizard of OZ. It was "eh". The lovely Zooey Deschanel was what got me to watch it.

Thanks You For Smoking (2005) - (5/10)

March of the Penguins (2005) - (4/10) - So why was there so much hoopla over this movie?? No one watches National Geographic or Discovery?

Awake (2007) - (5.7/10) - Big fan of Alba since her Idle Hands and Dark Angel days and I like Hayden...The movie has an interesting premise but the execution is a bit flawed and predictable. Worth a rent or download since it's only 78 minutes long.

Factotum - (6.7/10) - Independent movie about a guy who can't keep a job longer than a day or two. The trailer:

Amazon Women on the Moon - (4.5/10) - A set of skits spoofing stuff like 1950's sci-fi B-movies.

Monster Man - (6.9/10) - This is a fun little straight-to-DVD campy horror movie with the familiar storyline of a couple of teens getting chased by a pick-up in a cross country road trip.

Hot Rod - (5.5/10) - Not super laugh-out-loud funny...But worth a rent. If you are expecting a bunch of crude humor like superbad then skip this one.

American Gangster - (6/10)

The Chase (1994) - (8.9/10) - One of my all-time favorite movies! Perfect hour and a half car chase + comedy + action + Charlie Sheen + Kristy Swanson = Awesomeness every time I see it.

Mannequin On The Move - (5.6/10)

Scrooged - (6.7/10) - Second favorite Christmas movie after A Christmas Story.

Failure to Launch - (5/10) - I still can't stand Sarah Jessica Parker.

Goodbye R32...Gonna be missed!

I officially sold my R32 today. It will be missed.

The first day I brought it home...

At 5500 miles the engine died on me and left me stranded on the pacific coast highway. The entire engine was replaced.

The first car I ever took to the track (Streets of Willow!)

(I was exhausted at the event.)

I got to be a part of awesome R32 GTGs...

A weird metallic object fell from the sky with enough force to go right through the moonroof and even cause a small tear on my seat. Oh. And it happened in the parking lot of Disney Land.

My first (and hopefully last) car to ever be broken into...Freakin' in the closed/gated parking lot of my building! And a week after I got the window replaced my aunt backed into the car.

With all the bad luck this car had to endure in the past 3.5 years it was still an awesome car. Gonna miss that exhaust note. And that blue Sith R32.

My Latest Gadgets N95-3 and Pearl

I sold my nearly perfect 3-month old Nokia N95 about a month ago in anticipation for the release of the Nokia N95-3 US version which adds 3G, a bigger battery, and more RAM to the already awesome phone which has GPS, 5MP autofocus camera, endless 3rd party application support, WiFi, yada yada yada...Not gonna repeat myself. By now you should know how freakin' cool this phone is. Anyway...the new N95was released last week and my phone arrived today! Haven't had time to play with it yet...Hopefully this weekend. Some pics -

And while I was waiting for the new N95 to be released I picked up a Blackberry Pearl...Which turned out to be a pretty decent phone. Aesthetically pleasing with long lasting battery life and the best messaging interface out there.

A Look Forward to the Fall TV Season

Top 7 returning shows I'm looking forward to this fall:

1. The Office - One of the most consistently high quality and funny shows. And it's not only the humor...But the subtle expression of inner feelings is unmatched.
2. Heroes - Let's hope it wasn't a one season wonder...
3. Scrubs - It's final season and still not in HD. It will be missed..or it would be missed if it wasn't already syndicated like crazy!
4. Family Guy - The season opener is gonna be a star wars special..Just awesome.
5. Supernatural - A very a quality underrated CW offering. How can not like Jensen Ackles??
6. How I Met Your Mother - Slap bet.
7. Bones - I think it's the only "crime" show I watch because it's actually entertaining.

I didn't put Lost on the list because it doesn't return until January 2008. But I am definitely looking forward to its final episodes!

There are a few returning shows that I do enjoy but am hesitant to place on the "looking forward" list because my interest in them is tapering off due their degrading quality last season...These include:

1. Smallville - I have been a fan since day one. I have every season on DVD. But seriously this show should have ended like 2 seasons ago. The show always has some of the absolute best season finales but the middles portions of the season have been lacking - there are only so many "mutant of the week" episodes you can do.
2. Grey's Anatomy - I think most would agree this show got a bit dry last season. Less romance/sex and more drama and humor please. And please don't have any cross over crap with that Private Practice spin-off bullcrap.
3. American Dad - eh. It's funny and all but it already feels dated for some reason.

Top 3 new shows I'm looking forward to:

1. Reaper - The pilot was great! It's a supernatural comedy about a 20ish year old guy who has to collect escaped souls for the devil. Funny stuff.
2. Chuck - Basically another show about a 20ish guy who works at the "nerd herd" (geek squad) tech repair center at a Best Buyish type store who ends up having all of the US government secrets copied to his memory. Brought to you by the creator of The O.C. so it has that same type of geekish humor that Seth (Adam Brody) did so well in the first 2 seasons of The O.C.
3. Beauty and the Geek 4 (I Consider this new since there are no returning characters)

The Sarah Connor Chronicles is missing from the list because FOX has decided to bring it out in January instead. Since the show is on FOX it's probably best not to get too attached to the show if it's an good since they will probably screw it over and cancel it without giving it a chance. (Yes, much bitterness here...Dark Angel..Firefly...John Doe..the list goes on.) It's a series based on the Terminator series.

And there are few shows I'm not too excited about but will probably watch an episode or two to see if they're any good:

Aliens in America - The pilot episode was okay..Had a few laughs but not much substance. I think I might actually be a bit out of the target age demographic though..
The Big Bang Theory - CBS trying to bank on the success of How I Met Your Mother style...Probably will fail like The Class did.
Pushing Daisies - Interesting concept - A guy can revive the dead for 60 seconds by touching them.

And Shows I will miss from the summer:

Entourage - It's just soooo good and addicting.

The Reason I Am Up Late & Gadget Update

I have been staying up pretty late these past few days...Going to sleep between 3 and 4 A.M which is odd since I spent most of the summer heading to bed by 11 since I had myself on a strict MCAT study schedule. Hopefully this pattern won't hang around too long since classes start this Thursday. Maybe I should stop drinking Mountain Dew Game Fuel at night..over 20mg more caffeine than a regular can of dew for a total of 73 mg per can.;)

You can probably notice that my phone cam pic is not its usual 5MP self. This is because I sold my 3-month old Nokia N95 in anticipation of the late september (hopefully) release of the US version of the N95 which adds 3G, bigger battery, and double the RAM to the original N95 making it pretty much the best and most complete phone available. SO for now I'm relying on the super dependable 6620.

I also added a new toy to my ever growing gadget bin - a 16GB iPod Touch. I mainly got it for its browsing capability and video. Still gonna use by regular ipod from time to time since I have well over 40 gigs of music which obviously can't fit on the touch.

On the HD front I "upgraded" my Tivo HD DVR to the HR20-700 (for free if you play your cards right!) so I can watch/record the new HD channels coming up in the next month or so. I already miss my old Tivo interface and reliability..And I won't be able to use "Tivo" as a verb anymore...But I guess sacrifices have to be made if you crave the latest and greatest. Hi-def is addictive.

The King of Kong (2007) - (8.5/10) - Just awesome. A documentary about the battle for the world record for Donkey Kong. Even if you're not into this kinda stuff I am 100% you will be entertained from start to finish.

One Crazy Summer (1986) - (6/10) - This is my second time seeing this and for some reason it still doesn't entertain me the way Cusack's other films seem to do.

Popcorn (UK) (2007) - (6/10) - A movie about an insecure guy who gets a job at a theater multiplex to win the heart of a girl who already works there. The whole movie takes place in one night.

Serial Killing 101 (2004) - (5/10)

The Battle of Shaker Heights (2004) - Fun cast - Shia Lebeouf, Amy Smart, and Shiri Applby and decent plot. Oh, and bonus points since all the high school scenes were shot at my old high school.

Lovesick: Sick Love (aka The Chambermaid) (2004) - (5/10) - A group of people screw each other over for money and "love". Oh, and the chambermaid is smokin'.

Deadline Auto Theft (1983) - (4/10) - Nonstop police chase for 90% of the movie. No real characters or plot as far as I can tell.

Yellow (2006) - (3/10) - If you are a fan of Roselyn Sanchez then you will LOVE this movie. If you're not fan..uh..pass.

The Goonies (1985) - (7/10) - Do I really need to say anything?

In A Dark Place (2006) - (2.5/10) - Let's make a movie featuring a woman constantly waking up startled and confused and scared with images of creepy looking children. Oooh, so scary. What was Leelee Sobieski thinking when she took this role?

The Mallory Effect (2002) - (4/10) - Finally a movie (co)starring JOSIE MARAN! Too bad it sucked. Also it's too bad she is retired..sigh..At least I have a reason to post a pic of her.

Nearing Grace (2005) - (5.5/10) - A feature length version of Dawson's Creek taking place in 1978.

Redline (2007) - (4/10) - Really expensive fast exotic cars racing. Don't expect anything more or less.

The Other Side - DNF

Up In Smoke (1978) - (6.6/10) - I've been drug and alcohol free my entire life and even I can appreciate this movie. It's just a true buddy adventure flick.

La Doublure (The Valet) (2006) - (7/10) A great little French romantic comedy about a valet driver who has to pretend to be the boyfriend of a supermodel. It's Cute.

Westworld (1973) - (7.5/10) - This movie is just too good. People go to amusement parks that are full of life-like human robots and live out there fantasies in theme worlds such as the wild west or the renaissance period...But not everything goes as planned...

Alligator (1980) - (5/10) - Mutant alligator in small town sewer kills people. Simple enough?

Cheats (2002) - (5.3/10) - Inspired by true events...A comedy about a group of friends who cheat their way through high school. Pretty much like the movie Slackers but in high school.

Death Race 2000 (1975) - (5/10) - This movie deserves an award simply because of its mighty cool title.

In The Land of Women (2007) - (6/10) - What can I say...I'm and Adam Brody fan.

LOL (2006) - (1.5/10) - The summary on IMDB says "The relationships of three men are examined through their use of technology." Bullcrap. It's a bunch of shaky cam footage of annoying guys with no screen presence texting and talking on the phone and IMing. Why the heck would anyone want to watch that? There is nothing funny or enlightening in this movie. And nothing is "examined."

Mardi Gras Massacre (1978) - (4.5/10) - This movie probably deserves a lower score but since I watched it right after "LOL" it made appreciate it so much more.

The list of movies I have watched during my 3 weeks off has grown quite a bit so I'm gonna keep these quickie reviews really short this time around...

Carry On Screaming! (1966) - (4/10)

Dario Argento's Opera (1987) - (4/10)

Edmond (2005) - (5/10) - This movie is so harsh and is the opposite of a "feel good" movie.

The Foursome (2006) - (5/10) - Kevin Dillon is the only reason I gave this movie a chance.

The Hillz (2004) - (2/10) - Hahaha...This is movie is just so bad it's even kinda funny. I listed to the audio commentary on and off and these guys were talking sequels and stuff...haha..hahahaha.

Disturbia (2007) - (5/10) - I don't understand why this movie was so successful at the box office. Sure it was entertaining....But nothing great or original other than maybe Shia Lebeouf. And this movie has nothing on Rear Window.

Jolly Roger: Massacre at Cutter's Cove (2005) - (3/10) - I'm gonna go ahead and guess this was simply made to make money off of the Pirates craze...

Detention (aka The Learning Curve) - (6/10) - A substitute teacher places 6 kids-lost-in-the-cracks-of-urban-education-system-who-need-to-saving in a cage over the summer to teach them life lessons. Uhh. It was actually pretty good considering these high school kids looks about 30ish.

Macabre (1980) - DNF

The Namesake (2006) - 6.7 - If your parents moved to the US from afar and you were born here then you can probably relate to a few moments in this movie.

Pieces (1982) - (4.5/10) - A psycho killer cuts up women into puzzle pieces. Decent if you're into 80's slasher flicks.

I Love Your Work (2003) - (6.7/10) - Starts off a bit too artsy...And it's nice to see Josh Jackson working again.

Balls of Fury (2007) - (5.9/10) Totally fun and mindless entertainment. Perfect for the summer.

Ocean's 13 (2007) - (5.7/10) - Awesome cast as usual. Over-the-top confusing plot as usual. Fun as usual.

Evan Almighty (2007) - (5.5/10)

Study Hell - DNF Looks like a junior high production.

Hatchet - (2007) - (5.5/10) This movie has been getting a bit of hype because it's supposed to be one of those fun slasher flicks from the 80's..Well, it's not.

Lady In The Water (2006) - (5/10) - It was better than The Village...Of course that's not saying much coming from me.

Kickin' It Old School (2007) - (4.9/10) - It could have been a lot worse...Has a few parts worthy of a genuine chuckle - If you're into jokes about freely urinating transients.

The Last Run (2004) - (4.5/10) - Fred Savage (Wonder Years) becomes a womanizing sex addict. Must I say any more?

Sicko - (8/10) - Great film and even though the health care companies are as evil as it gets I am still firmly opposed to government regulated universal health care. Any increase in government involvement in our lives is detrimental to this country.

Taxi (1998) - (7/10) - This movie is awesome fun. It's the original french movie that the joke of a movie Taxi with that lame SNL actor and Queen Latifah was based on.

Vacancy - (7/10) - Now this is a a difficult movie to rate because I think part of the enjoyment of watching this movie was due to the fact that it REALLY seems as if someone saw my movie Check-In and took a lot of atmospherical cues from it...Any one who has seen both my movie and Vacancy agrees..

White Noise 2: The Light - (5.5/10) - Much better than the first one and stars Nathan Fillion. If you don't know what that is then just skip this one.

The Hollywood Knights - (4/10) - If someone were to make a really sucky version of American Graffiti this would be it.

Hot Tamale (2006) - (7.8/10) - This is a fun little movie about a small town naive guy from Wyoming who gets mixed up in some good old fashion trouble with some "bad guys" in Los Angeles after a few mix ups and misunderstandings while at the same time falling for a beautiful and love-to-watch love interest. The lead is super likable and his love interest - Diora Baird - is freakin' loveable.

976-EVIL (1989) - (4.5) - People call a 1-800 "Horrorscope" and end up getting killed. And one dude takes it too far...

1941 (1979) - (5/10) - Far from Spielberg's best...

Hostel Part II (2007) - (6.5/10) - If you have seen the first one you know what you are getting yourself into. Proceed with caution. Heavy gore ahead.

Kaw (2007) - (4.5/10) - Remember how great "The Birds" was? This is the exact opposite.

The Fountain (2006) - (5/10) - I waited to see this movie on HD because I heard it was a visually pleasing movie...So I saw in HD...And well, it was visually fantastic. But that was about it. The story sucked.

The Number 23 (2006) - (5/10) - Yet another movie with a great concept but with really cheap execution. Many of the cool facts about the number 23 are the best parts of the movie..But the story itself is just weak.

Morons From Outer Space (1985) - (5.7/10) - I got this movie on one of those cheap double feature DVDs and thought this would the worse of two...And I was wrong! It's a really really stupid movie with low production value but for some reason is able to entertain all the way through...Still can't figure it out why!?

1408 (2007) - (7/10) - I had high expectations for this movie...Looked like a good scare from the trailer...John Cusack..Sam L Jackson....Stephen King...And it delivered just as expected. Go check this one out in theaters if you still can.

Alien from L.A. (1988) - (2.5/10) - Now this is the other movie from that double feature disc I mentioned. This was the one I got the DVD for in the first place. And it was bad. Like really really really bad. Everything about it - plot, acting, set, effects, music - all of it, bad. And the lead character had the MOST annoying voice in film history. And the fact that she talks through almost every single minute of movie makes it like torture.

The Astronaut Farmer (2006) - (6.9/10) - What can I say? I don't like Billy Bob but he seems to deliver in almost every role he gets. A straight forward feel good movie.

Harold and Kumar 2 (2007/8?) - (6.8/10) - Can't say anything about this one other than it delivers the laughs just as well as the first!

Ichi The Killer (2001) - (4.9/10) - Overrated!!!

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (007 #6) - (1969) - (3.5/10) - Lazenby sucks as James Bond. Worst Bond I have seen so far.

Hell Comes to Frogtown (1987) - (4.5/10) - This has to be one of the funniest movie ideas ever! Please..Just watch the trailer!:

Happy Birthday To Me (1981) - (6.5/10) - I thought this was going to be yet another cheesy bad 80's teen slasher but it turned out to be a solid horror movie with a good plot with decent acting and relatively high production value. It's able to put on a good show without resorting to excessive gore, gratuitous nudity/sex, or dumb characters. Good stuff.

iPhone vs N95 Review

So when the iPhone was announced I was super excited about it and ready to hand over whatever the cost to Apple. As more info became available during the past few months my excitement tapered off...And when it finally did arrive its features paled in comparison of my current latest phone - the Nokia N95. But the Apple fanboy in me really showed itself as I got caught up in all the obsessive iPhone coverage that appeared online in the past week leading up to the release of phone yesterday at 6 PM. I read every professional and user review that popped up to find out if the iPhone was worth selling my N95 for (I could sell my phone on ebay, buy an iPhone and still have some spare change left over..)..And today I went to the Apple store and messed around with the iPhone in person. I am convinced that the current version of the iPhone is simply to weak for me. It's a fine if not fantastic phone if you are used to normal phones..like the majority of people are. I am used to a high standard of features on my phone so the current version of the iPhone is not good enough. Some pro and cons compared to the N95

iPhone Pros
- Fantastic web browser.
- Good email.
- Beautiful User Interface. It really is slick and fluid like the commercial. Never seen anything like it.
- Fantastic crisp and large screen.
- A no comparison music and video player (although the video is limited to a few formats). It's an awesome new iPod interface.
- Voice call quality seemed better than the N95
- Undeniably cooler than any other phone (see cons).
- Quicker camera than the N95 (but inferior in quality and control)
- Very slim.
- Long lasting battery compared to N95

Nokia N95 Pros
- 5MP AUTOFOCUS camera with flash
- Same web browser as the iPhone (even though I would say the iPhone browser is a bit nicer to use)
- MMS Messaging (I personally don't send MMS, but I do receive them from people)
- GPS Navigation
- You can save stuff from the internet (ie: you can save pics and files to the phone. Can't do that with iPhone)
- Can use a plethora of applications and games to do what ever you need - iPhone can't.
- physical keypad - Personal preference, but I like tactile feedback.
- Easy One Hand operation. You can do it with the iPhone but it is far from natural.
- Real Bluetooth connectivity - you can send files back and forth. Can use stereo bluetooth headsets.
- Send text messages to more than 1 person at a time
- Nice loud stereo speakers
- Removable battery.
- Not limited to built in memory (but the iphone comes with 4GB or 8GB built in..So that is enough for most people)
- Built in RSS reader.
- Not locked into a 2 year contract.
- No one has any clue what it is and will be much less common than the iPhone.
- DVD quality video recording.
- File browser system.

Nokia N95 Cons
- User interface can be laggy. Not even close in fluidity when compared to the iPhone.
- Get "out of memory problems" when doing to much at once.
- Music and Video interface not as nice as the iPhone and can't play iTunes songs without converting them first.
- Smaller screen - 2.5 vs 3.5 inches
- Battery doesn't last long.
- not slim or slick at all.

iPhone Cons
- A very closed system. Can't add any real applications (but you can use web apps, but they can also be used on the N95 since they use pretty much the same web browser so no advantage for the iPhone)
- No tactile feedback (again, this is a personal preference)
- Can't use your own ringtones (at least not yet..and not for free). N95 lets you use anything you want.
- Can't save anything from the internet. Not even pics! You can only look at it.
- Weak camera. No flash. No autofocus.
- No MMS
- No GPS
- No video recording
- Recessed small headphone jack. So not all headphone work with it. You have to buy the adapter for some headphones.
- Not a fan of the empty home screen. The N95 has your upcoming calendar events listed on the home screen.
- Every one and there mom is going to have one since they are so "cool".
- One-hand use is limited.
- No 1-button dialing. Or voice dialing.
- Locked up bluetooth connectivity - no file transfer and no stereo.
- No file browser system.
- If you have an active EDGE connection you will not receive an incoming call.

Pro for both phones:
- Both have Wifi with constant scanner.
- Both better than the majority of phones on the market today.
- Full internet browsing
- Both have youtube programs

Cons for both phones
- Both work on EDGE and are not 3G. I personally don't mind EDGE for browsing. I usually get 180-200 kbps
- Price. iPhone- 499/599 and the N95 - 680-750 (depending on where you get it).
- No flash support in the browsers.

So I think if you have a "normal" phone then the iPhone is the best upgrade you can do. If you just want internet, email, and a 4/8 GB iPod then I say the the iPhone does the job well.

I bought the first generation iMac, iPod, 17inch Powerbook, 30 inch Display, AppleTV, etc. So while I am an Apple "Fanboy" who likes to be the first with the latest electronic toys I am a gadget freak first and the N95 fits me a bit better - at least for now.

If the next iPhone has built-in GPS, 3G, and a few software updates to open up the system just a bit then I will probably pick one up. I really use GPS on a regular basis so it is a must for me.

Drive Thru (2007) - (6/10) - This movie is great because it knows exactly what it is - a teen-slasher-b-movie-comedy-horror - and therefore doesn't take itself seriously at all without being too harsh on itself. The killer in the movie is a fast food chain mascot called "Horny The Clown" for goodness sake! I enjoyed but it is definetly for fans of the genre only.

Lonely Hearts (2006) - (4/10) - On the complete other side of the film spectrum..This movie is way too "Look at me I'm serious so please give me critical acclaim and awards". No thanks.

Caffeine (2006) - (5.5/10) - A mediocre comedy revolving around a single day in a diner / coffee shop. Kinda like the poor man's clerks 2 and Waiting. It has a decent cast (Katherine Heigl is always a good thing!) and a few funny moments.

It's about a guy who stalks a girl using hidden cameras and then uses what he learns about her to get close to her. The entire movie is shot using hidden camera points of view and is very original. Knocked Up (2007) - (7.7/10) - Not as funny or as good as the 40 year Old Virgin but still great fun. It's much more of a relationship movie than a flat out comedy. I enjoyed the cast A LOT..Pretty much every character/actor was fun to watch.

The Terminator (1984) - (6.9/10) - I still like T2 better.

Deja Vu (2006) - (6.8/10) - I am a sucker for any thing that has to do with the possibilities of time alteration...Makes you actually use your head!

Pucked (2006) - (3/10) - I should have known how bad this movie would be once I saw Bon Jovi on screen. Really avoid.

Dead and Deader (2006) - (4/10) - A cheaply made and poorly written zombie-military movie. Avoid.

Night at the Museum (2006) - (5/10) - I can understand how this movie is considered to be really "bad"...Some movies just have that negative feel to them from the first time you see the trailer to the last time you take the dvd out..(Godzilla...Pearl Harbor..etc). It's a decent single viewing good concept but poorly executed popcorn flick.

Pervert! (2005) - DNF - Thought it was a comedy..I was wrong. Bunch of seriously unfunny sexual innuendo and nudity. Turned it off after 15 minutes.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006) - (7.1/10) - I am not a fan of Will Ferrell. I don't think he is funny. I also don't like Jim Carrey...But Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was one of my favorite movies of 2004. The same holds true for Stranger Than Fiction. It has a fantastic story with some pretty clever writing with a comedic star who is not trying to be funny. I really enjoyed this one...

Running Scared (2006) - (5/10) - Paul Walker must love action flicks. It seems like every movie he does is an all-out action movie! This one is super slick and sometimes overly stylized...And good for a single viewing only if you're into that kinda stuff. Oh, and really cool end credits - best I've seen in a while.

The Prestige (2006) - (6.19/10) - Two good actors - Christian Bale (Batman Begins) & Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) + Talented writer/director - Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins) = A Solid movie about 2 magicians trying to one up each other that is really entertaining to watch and requires you to actually pay attention all the way through.

Playoffs Over....Kinda

Warriors were eliminated by the Jazz tonight.
The Eastern conference is as boring as usual.
The Suns play the Spurs tomorrow without Amare Stoudemire so they will probably end up losing that series in the long run...Which means that it will most likely be Spurs and Jazz in the Western Conference Finals...Talk about boring! At least I'll have time to study now! Especially since all TV shows are airing their finales this week and next.

If anything..I thank for Warriors for making this year's playoffs very fun and exciting to watch. Forget it, I will not.

Knocked Up

Anyone else excited about Knocked Up? I was a big fan of 40 YO Virgin, Undeclared, and Freaks and Geeks...And since it's made by the same dude that made those AND stars Katherine Heigl...How can it go wrong? Hilarious, it will be.

And of course in two weeks...

And they are having a bunch of 8pm showings on the 24th but I have freakin' lab in the afternoon and won't even bother trying to make it since I KNOW there will be lines. If anyone is up for the midnight showing let me know!

End of Scrubs? Lost? Grey's..And More NBA!

It looks like one of my favorite shows may be coming to an end. It seems as if no one knows whether or not Scrubs will be returning next year and NBC is calling the next episodes "the last 2" in the promos and recent episodes have been hinting at an approaching end. From what I understand the official decision will be made by May 17th...Either way it was awesome show and I'm sure my dvd sets will give me many more hours of entertainment in the future!

Lost will also be ending...But not any time soon. ABC announced today that the show will come to an end in the 2009-2010 season. This is a highly unorthodox announcement for a TV show...But given the Lost storyline and the importance of how the series ends...I guess it makes sense. I can't even imagine what the writers have in mind to finish and EXPLAIN the series!

Anyone catch the Grey's Anatomy last week? The blatant and out of place Addison spin-off test was horrible! Did anyone actually enjoy it?? I feel sorry for you guys who had to watch it live and didn't get to fast forward through all the crap. I'm pretty sure the response wasn't that great and hopefully the spin-off idea will be scrapped.

The NBA playoffs continued tonight and the east bored us yet again while the uptempo play of the Warriors and Jazz entertained in the wild west. Practically every possession was a good one and Reggie Miller put it best when he said "Which team will blink first?!" Can't wait till game 2!

I used to think everyone had this reaction to the sun...But I guess not. Anyone else out there have this?

Photic sneeze reflex (also referred to as sun sneezing, photogenic sneezing, or whimsically called ACHOO syndrome, an acronym for Autosomal dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst syndrome) is a medical condition by which people exposed to bright light sneeze. The photic sneeze reflex can also cause one to sneeze many times consecutively. The condition occurs in 17% to 25% of humans, with more common occurrence in Caucasians than others[citation needed]. The condition is passed along genetically as an autosomal dominant trait.

The first mention of the phenomenon is probably in the later work attributed to Aristotle (Problems, book XXXIII).

The probable cause is a congenital malfunction in nerve signals in the trigeminal nerve nucleus. The fifth cranial nerve, called the trigeminal nerve, is apparently responsible for sneezes. Research suggests that some people have an association between this nerve and the nerve that transmits visual impulses to the brain. Overstimulation of the optic nerve triggers the trigeminal nerve, and this causes the photic sneeze reflex. Another theory suggests that tears leaking into the nose through the nasolacrimal duct are a cause of the photic sneeze reflex. The speed of the reflex seems to favour the first theory, as it happens much too quickly for tears to be generated and drain into the nose. In addition this sneeze reflex can be brought on by a sudden inhaling of cold air or a strong flavour such as a strong mint gum. This implies an overstimulation of any nerve close to the trigeminal nerve can cause the sneeze reflex.

All Babes Want to Kill Me (2005) - (1.5/10) - Avoid!

The Death And Life of Bobby Z (2007) - (5/10) - Paul Walker in yet another action flick...Car chases, rich drug dealers, love interest, explosions, fights, eh...you get the idea. Don't expect anything new.

Spider-Man 3 (2007) - (6.6/10) - Started slow. Liked it better than the second one. The acting during the "emotional" scenes were really bad...Even laughable at times. Especially the scene on the bridge...At first I even thought it was a joke. Also some of the acting and lines by the extras were just really lame...Wasn't sure if it was meant to be funny?? Same goes for most of the dialogue...And people give Lucas a hard time for the dialogue in episode II?! Venom is one of my all-time favorite comic book characters and I was satisfied with the way they handled his character...Sandman was pretty cool too - great CG! The action/fight scenes rocked as expected and the funny parts easily delivered. My favorite scene overall by far was the one with Bruce Campbell in the French restaurant - FREAKIN' HILARIOUS! Now that I think about it...Everything after that scene was really pretty entertaining...Especially when Peter heads to the Dark Side.;-)

The Fast and The Furious; Tokyo Drift (2006) - (6.8/10) - (A Re-watch in HD) - Pure exciting slick semi-mindless entertainment. I don't seen how anyone can NOT be entertained by this? Great soundtrack too.

Streets of Legend (2003) - (1.7/10)

Just My Luck (2006) - (5/10) - Generic not-too-terrible romantic comedy starring Lohan..So uhh..yeah.

-The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.

- It's impossible to tell if someone is really awake without close medical supervision. People can take cat naps with their eyes open without even being aware of it.

- Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you're sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you're still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day.

- A new baby typically results in 400-750 hours lost sleep for parents in the first year

- One of the best predictors of insomnia later in life is the development of bad habits from having sleep disturbed by young children.

- The continuous brain recordings that led to the discovery of REM (rapid eye-movement) sleep were not done until 1953, partly because the scientists involved were concerned about wasting paper.

This year's NBA playoffs is freakin' brilliant. The Golden State Warriors story is simply NBA magic and if they continue to play with the intensity that they used against the Mavs then they really have a chance of winning the championship! And that 's saying a lot considering they made it into the playoffs on the LAST day of the season.

Watching them play..especially with their fans at home...has been the most exciting bball I have seen in LONG time. Reminds me of the up tempo playoffs when the Kings (with Webber and Jason WIlliams), Mavs, Lakers (and I'll get to them later), and Spurs were going at it in the Western Conference a few years back. It's just unbelievable.

Now the Lakers...I just want to know where all the bandwagon,Laker flag on SUV wavin', lakers jersey wearin' laker fans are at when their team is losing? All I have to say to you is haha. Of course no one expected them to win with their hack overrated coach jackson and talentless team - except for Kobe - I can't imagine the way he feels playing with a heartless passionless team.

Maybe the reason I am enjoying the playoffs this year is because I am not emotionally involved with pulling for a single team...I just love watching all the upbeat basketball. Usually I have a favorite team and they ALWAYS lose..So this time I'm keeping my mouth shut and attachment low. That being said...I hope the Warriors don't lose.

This has been one of most exciting NBA playoffs I have seen in a while...Well, at least in the Western Conference. Every freakin' game is exciting to watch! Tonight's game between the Warriors and the Mavs was Awesome, exciting, and freakin' FUNtastic (yeah..I went there..FUNtastic.) Buzzer beaters, dunks, blocks, intensity...!!!

I'm so glad (in retrospect) that the Warriors beat out the Clippers for the final spot in the West...

Just wish I didn't have to study and do lab reports!..Then I could watch all the games guilt free!
