Exciting Playoffs!!

This has been one of most exciting NBA playoffs I have seen in a while...Well, at least in the Western Conference. Every freakin' game is exciting to watch! Tonight's game between the Warriors and the Mavs was Awesome, exciting, and freakin' FUNtastic (yeah..I went there..FUNtastic.) Buzzer beaters, dunks, blocks, intensity...!!!

I'm so glad (in retrospect) that the Warriors beat out the Clippers for the final spot in the West...

Just wish I didn't have to study and do lab reports!..Then I could watch all the games guilt free!

Allergic to Cats?

If you are allergic to cats the next time one causes you to suffer take note of their fur color...

At the year 2000 annual meeting of the American College of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology in Seattle an interesting cat-hair study was presented. People with dark-colored cats were 2 to 4 times more likely to experience moderate or severe allergic symptoms than people with no cats or with light-colored cats. There was no statistical difference in these symptoms between those with light-hair cats and those with no cats! I would guess that these results are a reflection of the concentration of cat antigens in the different hair colors: dyeing your cat’s hair won't help!

Interesting indeed.

Hotel Rwanda, Top Gun, and Mayhem!

Hotel Rwanda (2004) - (8/10) - I really did not expect to like this movie..But holy crap it sucked me in and kept my full attention all the way through to the end! It's about the decisions and actions of a hotel manager that saved the lives of many during the Rwandan Genocide. Intense.
Watch Trailer:

Top Gun (1986) - (5/10) - I'm a fan of the recent Tom Cruise (past 10 years or so) and not the 80's Cruise...I'm also a fan of Bruckheimer....But this movie just didn't hit me in a any way. I didn't even get into it during the fight scenes...oh well.

Suburban Mayhem (2006) - (3.9/10)

Finding Neverland (2004) - (5/10) - At least 3 people have told me how "great" this movie is...I just don't understand why? Yeah..Depp is good as usual and the premise of the origin of Peter Pan is a good one but the movie just didn't really entertain me. Maybe it's just not my style...?

Mary Antoinette (2006) - (6.2/10) - Another movie I didn't think I would really like but did any way. I think to really "get" this movie you have to give it your full attention when watching it - no browsing the internet or talking or etc. It's the subtleties of the characters and story elements that make this movie worthwhile - along with the music of course!
Watch Trailer:

Tripper. Dog Day Afternoon, and More!

Turistas (2006) - (5.3/10) - A completely forgettable thriller/horror about a group of generic white abercrombie and finch model looking people trapped on some Brazilian jungle.
Trailer:

Find Love (2006) - (5/10) - A low budget love story that takes place in about a day between 2 people who meet while waiting for their delayed flight. They are both already involved in serious relationships that get in the way of their feelings for each other...Eh.

The Hitchhiker (2007) - (5/10) - A straight-to-video rip-off of the "The Hitcher". It's about a psycho dude who likes to kill women and gets a handful when his next victims put up a fight...Decent late night popcorn flick.I couldn't even find a pic or video of this movie online...

Dog Day Afternoon (1975) - (7/10) - Solid Al Pacino movie based on the true story of a bank robbery that took place in the early 70's. Pacino's acting is freakin' sweet in this one...Pick it up the next time you stop by the video store if you haven't seen it.

The Tripper (2007) - (5.7) - David Arquette. Pot, acid, beer, horror, Pee-Wee (Paul Reubens), horror, red necks, hippies and comedy. Low budget. Fun.

1 Great Movie and 4 Sucky Ones

Bobby (2006) - (8/10) - An awesome cast: Harry Belafonte, Emilio Estevez, Laurence Fishburne, Heather Graham, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Hunt, Joshua Jackson, William H Macy, Shia LaBeouf, Demi Moore, and more. An interesting premise: Following the actions of the guests and staff in the hotel that RFK was killed on the day leading up to his assassination. Great Stuff all around.
Trailer:

Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) - (4.5/10) - Not really a fan of the series..And this is by far the worst one.

The Lawnmower Man (1992) - (3.9/10) - One of those movies I would always be drawn to in the video store but never picked it up...I should have kept it that way.

Severance (2006) - (5/10) - A British (I think) slasher horror movie from the wannabe-Saw genre. There are a couple of cool horror/gore scenes and while the humor does fall flat on this side of the pond it does seem to manage to entertain to a limited audience - horror fans.
Watch the Trailer:

Her Minor Thing (2006) - (4/10) - A really poorly made romantic comedy about a gal who has had nothing but unlucky relationships and then ends up having her "secret" that she is a virgin revealed on TV..or some crap like that. Only watch this if you're a fan of Estella Warren.

Luke and Anakin

GRINDHOUSE! TMNT! (and more)

TMNT (2006) - (6.8/10) - I was a big fan of the Turtles growing up (who wasn't?)..I watched the show, read the comics, and of course had the action figures. TMNT is a short not-too-kiddy solid fun animated movie. My only complaint about the movie is that there isn't enough of my favorite turtle - Donatello!!

The Best Man (AKA "Unhitched") (2005) - (4.5/10) - Eh. A pretty stale romantic comedy.

The OH in Ohio (2006) - (5.5/10) - It's about a woman who has never had an orgasm. She's been married for over ten years. It has its funny moments...But drags on at the end.
Trailer:

Alpha Dog (2005) - (6.7/10) - I did NOT think I would like this movie...But I did. Even though the "hardcore white boy" acting does come off a bit over-the-top at times (making it hard not to laugh) it is a pretty intense flick knowing that all of this might have actually happened. And oh snap Justin Timberlake can kinda act!
Trailer:

Black Christmas (2006) - (6/10) - You get exactly what you expect - Slasher horror with cute B-actresses and fun kills. No story and no depth. And of course..Mary Elizabeth Winstead! -

House of Usher (2006) - (3/10) - A horrible rendition of an Edgar Allan Poe tale.

Fifty Pills (2006) - A "good" college kid has to sell 50 pills in one day in order to pay his tuition or he gets kicked out of school. Nothing special...
Trailer:

Flushed Away (2006) - (4/10) - A very poorly and weakly executed animated movie about rats in the sewer system. I'm not even sure kids would find this one that entertaining.

Happy Feet (2006) - (5.5/10) - Much more entertaining than Flushed Away. The funniest parts were the ones including characters voiced by Robin Williams. It even a had a decent "moral message" albeit the result was unrealistic. Oh and the singing can get a little annoying at times...
Trailer:

Grindhouse (2006) - Planet Terror - (10/10), Death Proof - (4.5/10) , Fake Trailers - (9/10) - This was the my most anticipated movie since 2005's Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith! And it delivered exactly the way I thought it would. Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror is pretty much my perfect movie - over-the-top B-horror, awesome action, funny, cool and super likeable characters, great cameos, romance, excitement, and just all around non-stop fun. Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof was as weak as I expected! I don't understand how people like this guy!? Death Proof is boring and dull except for Kurt Russel and the car chase scenes. Most of the movie is trying-too-hard to be witty dialogue between completely annoying b**chy girls. The Fake trailers between the two movies were HILARIOUS and perfect. Can't wait to see this one again!

Trailer:

Bad News Bears (2006) - (6.7/10) - Fun. Foul. Funny. Even though I complain about Billy Bob acting the same freakin' way in every single movie I have to admit he is still funny in his own way.

Sunday 10

16 Blocks (2006) - (6.9/10) - A straight forward entertaining popcorn flick with Bruce Willis. Not much else to say really.

Patch Adams (1998) - (5.7/10) - A movie about a doctor trying to work outside the set business model of medicine. A little too preachy for me..But good stuff especially considering it is based on a true story. Trailer:

Storytelling (2001) - (4/10)

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) - (7.8/10) - Usually classics are overrated...Not this one. This is pretty much the perfect formulaic romantic comedy.

James Bond 007 #5 You Only Live Twice (1967) - (6.8/10) - This is one of the best Bond movies made. All the movies afterward are in one way or another influenced by You Only Live Twice. It has the super villain, women, elaborate world domination scheme, and a cool secret evil base - Can't for much else. Trailer:

The Fisher King (1991) - (6.3/10)

Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie (1995) - (4.9/10)

Summer of Fear (1978) - (3/10) - Boring!!!!!

Tenebre (1982) - (6.4/10) - Not as good as Dario Aregento's Suspiria but still pretty suspensful and some original and artistic kill sequences.

The Usual Suspect (1995) - (6.5/10) - Fantastic script. Quasi cool actors. I recommend this one for people who are looking for a solid story crime action flick.
